It was first designed by Morton Heilig in the 50s and the actual mechanical prototype was created in 1961. It was the first colourized, three-dimensional film which allowed users to experience sounds, smells, and even motion

The Term VR was First Coined by Jaron Lanier

Jaron Lanier created the first VR firm called Virtual Programming Language (VPL) Research in 1984. Lanier then developed equipment such as gloves and goggles for users to experience VR. Subsequently, the term VR was coined by him in 1987, and is widely used ever since.

Palmer Luckey Raised $2.44million for Oculus on Kickstarter

When Luckey launched his fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, his goal was to make 100 of them. By the time Kickstarter ended, the sum he raised enabled him to start an Oculus company. The company was then acquired by Facebook for $2billion in 2014
